So first, I should pass on that the Smackjeeves Awards are going right now! And... Peter Pan is in the running for best fantasy! Yay! I am putting the link here, but I don't just want you to run over and vote for Peter Pan. Read the others through, check them out and THEN vote for your favorite. You can even give kudos to each comic, which award them extra side awards! It's pretty cool. But yes. Here is the link! http://delusioninabox.com/sj/index.php

Seriously tho, there are some amazing comics up, do check them out. I read through the action section today, and I think I even have a new favorite comic ^_^;;

OKAY COMIC TIME. So yay, more Smee! Now, Smee, in the book, is actually not that bright. Actually, the quote from the book says it the best:

"Hook heaved a heavy sigh, and I know not why it was, perhaps it was because of the soft beauty of the evening, but there came over him a desire to confide to his faithful bo'sun the story of his life. He spoke long and earnestly, but what it was all about Smee, who was rather stupid, did not know in the least."

So yes, dear sweet Smee, and poor Hook unloading this all on him ^_^;; I actually got all of this information from Barrie's speech about Hook, so it's all totally canon. If you can read those tiny words, props to you. I wanted to make them mostly unreadable b/c Smee is tuning them out, poor guy. It's all background noise to him.

But Peter, THAT'S a name he knows ^___^

Enjoy!

Ah yes, my days at Eaton. I spent long days reading poetry... the classics...
You know about my blood, of course, and I bothered the other boys, but I did place 12th in the 100 yards when in college. Strangely, I very much hated the touch of water as a child, and yet, look at me now...
I won many colors at Eton. Of which my aunt was very proud. I still receive the Eaton Chronicle...

But then that blasted boy, PETER...

@Djoing: Heheh, very close ^_^ few commas turned into periods, and "it bothered" rather than "I bothered". Well done though, Djoing!

You know, considering the age-range between Hook and Smee...

It kinda gives you a inkling that Smee used to be a Lost Boy...

@Onasaki: I have heard that theory, but if Peter does indeed kill the lost boys when they get too old, that wouldn't work out, it all depends on the "thinning out" theory ^_^. They're not too far apart tho, I have him at about 35ish, while Hook is early 40's.

@TriaElf9: Wait, Peter KILLS the lost boys when they get too old? But don't they not age(if you'll pardon my grammar)?

@Kazu-chan: Well, Barrie says he "thins them out" when they get too old, which either means he banishes them, or kills them, it's not really clear.

Oh yes, in the book, the only person who doesn't age is Peter ("all children, except one, grow up"). That is one really important point that is usually lost among all the adaptations ^_^;; Everyone else on the island continues to age, though perhaps not particularly normally as time is calculated by the moons and the suns, and there apparently more in Neverland than on the mainland (i.e. Britain)

@Kazu-chan: No problem! There are so many things like that in the book that just get lost amidst all the movies and stuff, it's so much fun sharing them with interested parties! I know I was totally excited when I first found them out ^_^

@TriaElf9: About Smee: We know that Hook often tries different plans to win over Peter. I think it's sort of a nice theorie that Smee could have been one of the lost boys. If Peter really kills the lost boys when they get too old (Which is, as scary as it sounds, still the theorie that makes the most sense to me), there's still the question of HOW exactly he kills them, and when exactly. It's possible that Hook just kidnapped Smee, and after finding out how convenient his simple personality is, kept him as a pirate. After all Hook tried that with Tinker Bell and Wendy, too, in a sort of way... wouldn't that be possible?

Oh and there is another thing I keep wondering about.
Where exactly do all those pirates come from?! There must be rather many of them, given how easily Hook kills them. Where does he get them from? They don't grow on trees, after all ^^

@snow crystal: That is all very true, we've no idea about Smee's history ^_^ Though, Hook only tries that with Tink and Wedny in the movies, Tink and Hook they never even interact in the book or the musical. He does offer two boys the chance to be cabin boys, but when they ask if they can stay loyal to the Queen he says no, and they refuse. The only one to offer Wendy a way out is actually Smee, who asks her to be his mother ^_^ (which she of course refuses :P )

They mention the mainland a lot, so I'm pretty sure that they go back and forth frequently enough, or perhaps the island allows in more pirates for Hook's crew when he runs out? It's one of the many gaps in the story ^_^;;

@TriaElf9: Aaah, okay. The more we talk about it, the more I get curious about Smee's past and how he met Hook... must be fun to write the story of how they met.

As to the pirates... hmm, that could be it. I thought about the mainland, too, and thinking about it... I think it would be interesting to write more about the pirates, too! :)

@snow crystal: Me too! I mean, he clearly trusts him above all the other pirates, but that's probably b/c Smee has good form, whereas the other pirates are all skeezy :P

I agree ^_^
